Programs
Our Mission in Action
Everything begins with food, but our impact goes far beyond the kitchen. Through our programs we address immediate needs while also building lasting pathways to health, opportunity, and connection — focusing on four key pillars:
Food Access, Youth Empowerment, Holistic Health & Community Building.
No-Cost Grocery Program
We believe access to fresh, nutritious food is a right, not a privilege. Twice a week, Sun Valley residents can attend our grocery program, where neighbors come together in a welcoming, judgment-free space. Families receive fresh, healthy food options, and both children and adults are offered prepared hot meals to-go.
Kids Cooking Class
Our Kids Cooking Class invites third through fifth graders to explore new environments, cultures, and activities through food. Each week, children build confidence in the kitchen while learning to prepare healthy, nutritious meals. Guided by an instructor and supported by volunteers, the program creates a safe, encouraging space for kids to discover the joy of cooking.
Youth Employment
Local youth build tangible job skills while exploring career paths in kitchen operations and food preparation. Beyond workforce training, we provide wraparound services—including mentorship, mental health support, personal development resources, and a Scholarship Fund—to ensure youth feel supported both on the job and in their lives.
Health and Wellness Center
In 2023, SVKCC opened the Health & Wellness Center, providing Sun Valley residents with free, accessible care every day of the week. The center offers diverse healing practices—including auricular acupuncture, chair yoga, aromatherapy, meditation, herbal remedies, a walking club, BrainTap therapy, personalized self-care sessions, and a monthly herbal wellness workshop—supporting whole-person well-being.
Sun Valley Kitchen
Sun Valley Kitchen is our social enterprise restaurant with a menu rooted in the flavors of our neighborhood, blending global influences with American favorites. SVK also supports our Hospitality Workforce Development Program, launching in 2026, which will provide a 10-week cohort where participants gain hands-on training in enterprise operations, fast-casual dining, and elevated hospitality.
Chef Entrepreneurship
SVKCC offers employment and workforce development opportunities for local residents interested in developing the skills needed to operate a food-based business. The Chef Entrepreneurship program provides training, professional development, hands-on work experience and business operations education utilizing a social enterprise model.
Viaduct Night Market
The Viaduct Night Market emerged as an international market destination under the West Colfax viaduct. Chefs from our Chef Entrepreneurship program sell their cuisine alongside artists, merchants, and food businesses from Denver’s westside. The market celebrates diversity, activates underutilized public spaces, and creates opportunities for local businesses, artists, and entrepreneurs.
Community Celebrations
SVKCC brings neighbors together year-round to celebrate, connect, and share joy. Each fall, our Harvest Festival gathers families and partners for food, music, and community fun, highlighting Sun Valley’s culture of resilience and connection. We also host annual holiday events—including a Halloween celebration and a Winter Holiday gathering—where neighbors of all ages can enjoy free meals, family activities, and a welcoming space to celebrate together.
